Other Names: Cochin Grass/Malabar Grass

Botanical Name: Cymbopogon Flexuosus

Family: Poaceae

Native: South and South East Asia

A bush that prefers wet, humid conditions. Resistant to most pests. May be grown successfully in a large container and in isolation as it will keep growing out feeder roots and stems and tends to populate the entire growing space over time. Water well and deeply as this is a water loving grass and will die out, or its growth will get stunted if it does not get its daily drin. It needs full and strong sunlight for eight hours each day. Container friendly. Grows quickly. The leaves growing around the main shoot/stem may be harvested whenever needed and used immediately as they do not last long in a refrigerator/outside. A great asset to have on hand while making chai. To know more, please visit: https://mumbaifarmer.com/what-to-grow/growing-lemongrass-in-mumbai/

  • GROWING: Re-pot in a larger container to increase root and foliage growth when needed. Grow separately as this plant is quite demanding of soil/water resources. Trim off old, drying leaves from time to time and add this as shredded foliage around your plant to increase humus and soil health.

LIGHT: If growing indoors (balcony recommended), place in a bright spot with exposure to direct sunlight for at least six hours daily. If growing outdoors, place in full sun.

    WATERING: Daily through the year.

FERTILIZING: Our plants are sold in organically enriched, NPK+MagSulf strong, potting mixes that would need no additional soil amendments for at least one year. If migrating to a larger container, we recommend the use of Mandy's Farm Foliage Plant Potting Mix or one similar to it.
