Other Names: Swiss Cheese Plant/Five Holes Plant/Monkey Mask Plant
Scientific Name: Monstera
Family: Araceae
Genus: Monstera
Native: West Indies, Central and South America
Closely related to Epipremnums and Philodendrons, Monsteras are their more dramatic counterparts. They usually have extremely large leaves and grow to great heights as a creeper but there are smaller, more compact leaf sizes in Monsteras as well. This is one of them, and it is a very popular variety known as "Adansonii", loved for its trademark holes on the leaf surface, which is why it is more generally known as the "Swiss Cheese Plant". Their aerial and subterranean roots enable the plant to trail, climb and creep. A quick growing aroid that will thrive in high humidity, heavy watering, good airflow and bright indirect light.
