Scientific Name: Begonia Obliqua

Family: Begoniaceae

Native: Subtropical and tropical South & Central America, Africa, & South Asia.

With 1,831 species, Begonia is one of the largest genera of flowering plants. The species are terrestrial (sometimes epiphytic) herbs or undershrubs. Terrestrial species in the wild are commonly upright-stemmed, rhizomatous, or tuberous. Many varieties flower profusely, and some even fruit. While begonia foliage is vast and varied, many of the commonly known ones are recognizable by their asymmetic leaves. Container friendly and suitable for Mumbai, begonias thrive in strong indirect light and can be grown indoors in a bright spot or outdoors in semi-shade. This variety has a silvery colored upper leaf with light green veins running across very attractively, grows compactly making it suitable for terrariums, and is known as 'Frosty',

*Highly rated as an airpurifier when placed indoors.

**All our plants are grown in organically enriched living soil without the use of any chemical fertilizers, fungicides or pesticides.

  • GROWING: Re-pot in a larger container to increase root and foliage growth. Trim off old, drying leaves from time to time.

LIGHT: If growing indoors, place in a bright spot with exposure to direct sunlight, but not harsh afternoon light, for at least six hours daily. If growing outdoors, place in semi-shade.

WATERING: Daily in summer and thrice a week rest of the year. Allow soil to dry out completely between watering events. Never let its roots sit in stagnant water. If growing indoors, ensure that drip trays are emptied regularly.

FERTILIZING: Our plants are sold in organically enriched, NPK+MagSulf strong, potting mixes that would need no additional soil amendments for at least one year. If re-potting/migrating to a larger container, we recommend the use of Mandy's Farm Foliage Plant Potting Mix or one similar to it.
